Opera Animata’s exciting 2014-2015 season kicks off with a creation by our own artists! The 24th Annual Anna Bolena von Peters Greater Orange County Aria Pageant (or GOCAAP for short) is a pastiche of operatic classics in the setting of an aria competition, yet with the style of your local beauty pageant. December brings Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, a family holiday favorite. Next is the inaugural performance of Opera Animata’s new performance series, Animata in Taberna. We bring your favorite songs and arias to you while you wine and dine! Our season will conclude with a “resurrection” of our hit production of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Hollywood Fringe Festival!
Dido and Aeneas was a resounding success! Thanks to everyone who participated and those who attended our inaugural performance. It is rewarding to see so much support and appreciation for the small but innovative opera performances that Opera Animata aims to produce.
Our next opera is Orfeo ed Euridice by Christoph Willibald Gluck. Based on a Greek myth, it is the story of the heartbroken Orfeo who ventures into the underworld in an attempt to retrieve his deceased wife Euridice. The August 2014 production will feature Sarah Reynolds as Orfeo, Jenny Ohrstrom as Euridice and Alyssa Brode as Amore.
